Mr. Don Habetz was the "Founding Father" of the RAMS flying site. He and his brother, Ed Habetz, got it all started in the late fifties, flying on the site long before any other club existed in Louisiana. They didn't set out to form a club, but just a meeting place for themselves and their close friends and flying buddies. They spent many long Sunday afternoons flying together and making memories. Without Don and his passion for the hobby, the RAMS club wouldn't exist today.

Sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics in the summer of 2003, the Rice Area Modelers Society is a multi-interest club located at the Don Habetz Memorial Field. It is just 1.7 miles North of the I-10 East Crowley Exit (Exit 82), with the entrance on the left. We are very proud that our club is not only the first of its kind in Louisiana, but is still the only one in the state to have an AMA sanctioned seaway. Yes... a seaway! It is 700 feet long and 100 feet wide, perfect for seaplanes, boats, and helicopters! Our grass runway is also 775 feet long and 100 feet wide.

As you can see from our aerial photo, we have a lot of parking space for cars and RV's as well. Tent camping is also welcome. We look forward meeting you out at our field, and if you have any questions, please feel free to CONTACT US!
